According to media reports, several people were injured in violent protests in Dire Dawa (Dire Dawa region) between January 21-24. The unrests have reportedly been sparked by an attack against a religous procession on January 21. Protests quickly evolved into demands by local residents for equal rights for jobs. Protesters reportedly burned tyres and blocked roads in the Addis Ketema, Dechatu, Sabian, Gende Kore, and Depot districts of the city. Further related protests are possible in the coming hours and days.
