Labor unions and civil society organizations have announced nationwide demonstrations to protest the government's economic policies and reductions in fuel subsidies. The CONAIE group, an indigenous rights civil society organization, have announced protests on Monday, January 28, while the Workers Unity Front (FUT) and affiliated labor unions are planning demonstrations on Wednesday, January 30. Further details on the location of the demonstrations have not been announced as of Sunday, January 27, although rallies are likely in Quito and other urban areas at public squares and other gathering points. A heightened security presence and transportation disruptions are possible in the vicinity of the demonstrations.
