Orange weather alerts for winter weather issued in multiple regions January 28-29; anticipate transportation disruptions

The Finnish Meteorological Institute issued orange weather alerts (the second-highest level on a four-level scale) for ice and snow in the regions of Åland, Varsinais-Suomi, Satakunta, Uusimaa, Kanta-Häme, Päijiät-Häme, Kymenlaakso, and South Karelia, for Monday, January 28, and Tuesday, January 29. Authorities warn that blowing snow, high winds, and freezing rain will cause dangerous road conditions. Transportation disruptions are to be expected, including at Helsinki Airport (HEL). 


Individuals in Finland, including those traveling via HEL, are advised to monitor local weather reports, prepare for transportation disruptions (including road closures and flight delays and cancelations), and confirm flight reservations.
