Libyan security forces arrested a suspected notable Islamic State (IS) militant, Khalifa al-Barq, in Sirte on the night (local time) of Wednesday, January 30. Similar security operations targeting suspected IS militants are possible in Libya over the near term.


IS militants have continued to carry out attacks on security forces and infrastructure in Libya since being driven out of their former stronghold of Sirte in late 2016.


Individuals in Libya are advised to monitor developments to the situation and report suspicious objects and behavior to police.
