The Democratic Regions Party (DBP) and the People's Democratic Party (HDP) are planning to stage a demonstration in Bakirköy Freedom Square (Republic Square) in Istanbul beginning at 13:00 (local time) on Sunday, February 3, in support of Kurdish political leader Abdullah Öcalan, held in prison by Turkish authorities since 1999. A heightened security presence and road closures are expected near the demonstration site; clashes between demonstrators and security forces cannot be ruled out.
