Water cuts reported in Béjaïa (Béjaïa province) as of February 4; demonstrations possible in the coming days

TIMEFRAME expected from 2/4/2019, 12:00 AM until 2/10/2019, 11:59 PM (Africa/Algiers). COUNTRY/REGION Béjaïa (Béjaïa province)

Frequent water cuts have been reported in Oued Ghir and parts of Béjaïa (Béjaïa province) since late January. According to local sources, water supply to the area was cut from Monday, January 25, through Thursday, January 28. Further water cuts have been reported in the area as of early February. According to Algeria's national water utility, the water cuts have been caused by increased turbidity in a nearby river following a period of heavy rains. Further water shortages and associated cuts are likely in Oued Ghir and Béjaïa in the coming days. Related demonstrations cannot be ruled out.

Individuals in Béjaïa province are advised to monitor developments to the situation, be prepared for water cuts (stock up on bottled water), limit water usage (including flushing toilets), and adhere to any instructions issued by the local authorities. Avoid all related demonstrations and gatherings as a precaution, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities.
