On Tuesday, February 5, local authorities ordered the evacuation of residents living in several villages located near the mount Karangetan volcano (North Sulawesi province; Sitaro district) following a new eruption, which resulted in hot lava and rock sliding downward, approaching nearby villages and roads.

Mount Karangetan volcano is one of Indonesia's 129 active volcanoes. On December 21, 2019, authorities raised the alert status for the volcano to the second highest after the volcano erupted.

Individuals in or traveling near the affected areas are advised to monitor developments to the situation and anticipate flight diversions and disruptions (e.g. delays and cancelations) in the event of further eruptions.
