The Verdi union is calling for ground staff to strike at Düsseldorf International Airport (DUS) and Hannover Airport (HAJ) on Thursday, January 7. Baggage handlers at HAJ will strike from 05:00 until 13:00 (local time), potentially disrupting around 12 flights. Airport officials at DUS have also warned that flights will likely be delayed or canceled during a planned work stoppage from 03:00 to 11:00. Residual flight disruptions are also possible at both airports throughout January 7.
The union is demanding increased pay during Christmas and holidays, as well as during night shifts. Verdi is currently in negotiations with employers, which are scheduled to resume on Friday, January 8.
Individuals in or traveling through DUS and HAJ are advised to confirm the status of their flights, to allow for extra time to reach their gates, and contact their airlines for further details.
