A protest to denounce alleged sexual offences by former President Oscar Arias will take place at Parque Central in the capital San José on Friday, February 8. Protesters are expected to gather at 17:30 (local time). Further protests, particularly in San José, are possible in the coming days. A heightened security presence and associated transportation disruptions are to be anticipated in the vicinity of the gathering.


Five women accuse former president Arias (in office between 1986-90 and 2006-10) of sexual offences. The case is under investigation.
