Event
The opposition Democratic Party is planning to hold anti-government protests in Tirana on Saturday, February 16. Supporters are expected to gather at Deshmoret e Kombit Boulevard, Zogu i Zi, Qyteti Studenti, and Selman Stermasi Stadium before marching to the prime minister’s office at 11:00 (local time). Police officials denied the Democratic Party permission to hold protests in two areas, near the Pyramid and on a road near the prime minister’s office; however, party leaders announced on Thursday, February 14, that they will not obey the order as it is unlawful and restricts freedom of assembly. Heightened security measures and localized traffic disruptions are expected throughout the city.
Advice
Individuals in Tirana are advised to monitor developments to the situation, follow any instructions issued by the local authorities, and avoid all protests as a precaution.
