On Friday, February 15, Greece's Center for Disease Control and Prevention (KEELPNO) confirmed the deaths of 56 people due to complications arising from the influenza strain H1N1 in the past three months. Seventeen of the deaths were reported between February 4 and 10. There have been 226 serious cases, of which 29 had been vaccinated. Health officials are urging citizens to receive vaccinations. Further spread of the disease is possible in the coming weeks and months.
Individuals in Greece are advised to confirm their vaccination status, take preventative measures to minimize the risk of contraction (e.g. wash hands thoroughly, avoid contact with sick individuals, etc.), and consult medical professionals if exhibiting flu-like symptoms.
