An avalanche hit a resort in Crans-Montana (Sierre district, Valais canton) at approximately 14:00 (local time) on Tuesday, February 19. Officials report four people were wounded and at least 12 others are missing as of Tuesday evening, and a search operation of over 200 rescuers is underway. The European Avalanche Warning Services (EAWS) maintains Level 2 (the second-lowest level on a five-tier scale) avalanche and heavy snow warnings for the area as of Wednesday morning, February 20. Consequent transportation disruptions are possible in the affected areas in the coming days.
