Event

A landmine planted by the now-ousted Islamic State (IS) group detonated in the Salamiyah area (Hama province) on Sunday, February 24, killing at least 24 people. Similar incidents are possible in areas once controlled by IS over the near term.

Context

IS has lost most of the territory it once controlled in Iraq and Syria after suffering major military defeats following its 2014 offensive.
