Heavy rains began in São Paulo state late (local time) on Sunday, March 10, causing flooding in and around the city which left at least seven people dead as of Monday, March 11. Further rainfall is forecast in the area over the coming days which may exacerbate flooding. Consequent transportation disruptions are to be expected in and around São Paulo over the coming days.


Individuals in São Paulo state are advised to monitor local weather forecasts, prepare for transportation disruptions, and adhere to any advice issued by the local authorities (e.g. potential evacuation orders). In the event of flooding, keep in mind that driving or walking through running water can be dangerous - 15 cm (6 in) of running water is enough to knock over an adult.
