TIMEFRAME expected from 3/17/2019, 12:00 AM until 3/28/2019, 11:59 PM (Africa/Bamako). COUNTRY/REGION Bamako

The union representing workers at Gabriel Touré Hospital in Bamako announced that a 48-hour strike notice has been filed with the government for Wednesday, March 27, and Thursday, March 28. Union officials submitted the strike notice on Monday, March 11, warning that the work stoppage will take place if the government does not meet the workers’ demands. According to union leaders, only minimum service will be provided during the strike.

According to media reports, conditions at Gabriel Touré Hospital have significantly deteriorated. Operating rooms have been closed for over a week due to a lack of essential equipment. Hospital workers are demanding that the government respect previous agreements that have not yet been implemented. They are also calling for working conditions to improve, including overall sanitation and more equipment for medical services.

Individuals in Bamako are advised to monitor the situation, confirm doctor's appointments, to anticipate longer waiting times in medical facilities for the duration of the strike, and to avoid any potential related protests.
