Tropical Cyclone Veronica formed off the northwest coast of Western Australia on early (local time) Wednesday, March 20. The storm is forecast to strengthen as it moves southwest along the Pilbara coast before turning south and making landfall near Karratha on Sunday, March 24. Heavy rain, winds of up to 195 kph (120 mph), and heavy surf, particularly to the east of the storm's path, are expected for the region in the coming days. Some flooding, wind damage, and road closures are possible in the area, including the North West Coastal Highway.
