Roughly 80 percent of air traffic controllers in Fiji have reportedly taken unscheduled leave as of Wednesday, March 20, amid a dispute over salaries and promotions, and to demand better working conditions. The protest, which began on Monday, March 18, has prompted safety concerns due to over-working of on-duty personnel. Flight delays and cancelations are to be expected in Fiji during and immediately following the protest. Additional actions by air traffic controllers and consequent flight disruptions are possible over the coming days and weeks if their demands are not met.

Individuals flying via Fijian airports are advised to monitor developments to the situation, prepare for flight disruptions, confirm flight reservations before departing for the airport, and contact their airline for more information.
