Two unidentified assailants on a motorbike, suspected of belonging to the far-left Popular Fighters Group (OLA), threw a hand grenade at the Russian Consulate in a northeast suburb of Athens on the morning (local time) of Friday, March 22, causing minor material damages but no injuries. Authorities cordoned off the area surrounding the consulate in the wake of the incident and deployed a bomb disposal team to the site; counterterrorism police have reportedly launched an investigation into the attack.

An increased security presence and localized transportation disruptions are possible surrounding the Russian Consulate as the investigation continues.
