Event

The US Geological Survey (USGS) recorded a 6.1-magnitude earthquake approximately 7 km (4.3 mi) northwest of El Dovio at 14:21 (local time) on Saturday, March 23. The depth of the quake was reported as 113.3 km (70.4 mi). No casualties or significant damages have been reported. Additional aftershocks are possible over the coming hours and days.

Individuals in the affected area are advised to anticipate aftershocks and possible damage and disruptions to travel and power networks.

In the event of earthquakes or aftershocks, individuals should protect themselves as much as possible from falling debris if indoors (e.g. under a table), move away from windows and exterior walls (ideally in a corner), and not attempt to leave the building unless there is an immediate danger. If outdoors, move away from tall buildings, utility wires, and streetlights.
