Several unions representing aviation workers have decided to move forward with a nationwide strike on Monday, March 25. According to union leaders, personnel for Alitalia will participate in the strike from 10:00 until 14:00 (local time). A list of canceled Alitalia flights is available here, and further information concerning the strike and assistance for affected passengers is available on the Alitalia website. Participating Air Italy personnel will also strike for 24 hours on March 25, although the company has reportedly guaranteed operations from 07:00 to 10:00 and from 18:00 to 21:00. Air traffic controllers are the only personnel not affected by the strike.
Transportation-related strikes are frequent in Italy and can be highly disruptive. However, in accordance with Italian law, minimum levels of services must be guaranteed during all industrial and social actions.
Individuals traveling to or from Italian airports are advised to confirm the status of their flights prior to departure for the airport and anticipate flight and airport service disruptions.
