Police disperse protesting students at Kyambogo University (Kampala) March 28; heightened security presence and business disruptions reported

Students staged a protest at Kyambogo University in Kampala on Thursday, March 28, to denounce a new university tuition payment policy. Police forcibly dispersed the protesters with tear gas; unconfirmed reports claim that gunshots were also heard in the area. Several students were reportedly wounded in the clashes. Businesses near the university were temporarily closed due to the unrest. A heightened security presence has been deployed in and around the university.

Elevated security measures and localized traffic disruptions are possible in the area over the coming hours.
