Demonstration reported outside of Grand Husseini Mosque in Amman March 29; similar protests possible over the coming days

TIMEFRAME expected from 3/29/2019, 1:00 AM until 3/31/2019, 11:59 PM (Asia/Amman). COUNTRY/REGION Amman

A demonstration organized by the Muslim Brotherhood in Jordan took place in Amman on Friday, March 29, to denounce the US decision to recognize Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights. Thousands of protesters gathered in front of the Grand Husseini Mosque. Protesters also denounced Israeli control over East Jerusalem and called for the protection of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, the third holiest site in Islam, located in Jerusalem.

Similar protests are possible in Amman over the coming days. A heightened security presence and localized traffic disruptions are to be expected near protest sites.

The demonstration took place as Palestinian protesters are organizing mass protests in Gaza and at the Gazan-Israeli border to mark the anniversary of the "Great March of Return" on March 29-30.

Individuals in Amman are advised to monitor developments to the situation, avoid all protests and demonstrations as a precaution, and adhere instructions issued by local authorities.
