Belgium News Alert

Climate change protest expected in Brussels on April 4; localized traffic disruptions expected near demonstration site

TIMEFRAME expected from 4/4/2019, 12:00 AM until 4/5/2019, 12:00 AM (Europe/Brussels). COUNTRY/REGION Brussels

The "Rise for Climate Belgium" group is planning to hold a demonstration in Brussels on Sunday, April 4, to demand action on climate issues. Tens of thousands of people are expected to participate in the rally, which will start at 10:30 (local time) at the Gare Du Nord train station. Localized traffic disruptions are to be expected around the protest site.

About 15,000 people marched in related demonstrations in Belgium on March 31. The climate protests have been held in Belgium since September 2018, notably in Brussels, to demand that states who signed the Paris Agreement in 2015 commit to reducing their greenhouse gas emissions which contribute to global warming.

Individuals in Brussels are advised to monitor developments to the situation, avoid all protests and demonstrations as a precaution, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities.
