Albanian opposition political parties, the Democratic Party (PD) and the Social Movement for Integration (LSI), are planning to hold demonstrations in the capital Tirana on Wednesday, April 3, and Saturday, April 13. Wednesday’s rally is part of an ongoing protest movement during plenary sessions of parliament. Parliamentary sessions are scheduled to begin at 10:00 (local time); previous demonstrations have been held outside of the parliament building. The April 13 rally is set to start at 18:00 outside of the prime minister’s office and opposition leaders have called for supporters to hold associated demonstrations across the country. Heightened security measures and localized traffic disruptions are expected around all protest sites. Clashes between demonstrators and security forces have occurred during previous events and further violence cannot be ruled out.

Protests reportedly attempted to storm the parliament building in Tirana on March 28 during demonstrations to demand fresh elections and call for the departure of Prime Minister Edi Rama. Opposition supporters have held several demonstrations in Tirana in recent weeks outside of the parliament building, with security forces using water cannons and tear gas to disperse the crowds.

Individuals in Albania, particularly in Tirana, are advised to monitor developments to the situation, avoid all protests and demonstrations as a precaution, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities.
