A fire broke out at a waste storage facility in the Campbellfield area of Melbourne on the morning (local time) of Friday, April 5. The blaze started at approximately 06:40, causing a series of loud explosions and spewing thick smoke across the area. Nearby businesses were evacuated as a precaution and there was limited spread of the flames in the area. Over 200 fire fighters were deployed and brought the blaze under control by 12:00. However, emergency officials warned that it may take days before the fire is completely put out. At least two people have been taken to the hospital after suffering injuries. Disruptions around the area of the incident are expected to continue in the coming hours and days as recovery efforts continue. The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
