A fire broke out at a waste storage facility in the Campbellfield area of Melbourne on the morning (local time) of Friday, April 5. The blaze started at approximately 06:40, causing a series of loud explosions and spewing thick smoke across the area. Nearby businesses were evacuated as a precaution and there was limited spread of the flames in the area. Over 200 fire fighters were deployed and brought the blaze under control by 12:00. However, emergency officials warned that it may take days before the fire is completely put out. At least two people have been taken to the hospital after suffering injuries.
