Afghanistan: Bombing kills three US service members in Bagram district April 8

Afghanistan News Alert

Bombing attack kills three US service members and American contractor in Bagram district (Parwan province) April 8; Taliban claims responsibility for attack

TIMEFRAME expected from 4/8/2019, 12:00 AM until 4/15/2019, 11:59 PM (Asia/Kabul). COUNTRY/REGION Bagram district (Parwan province)

A bombing attack targeted a convoy carrying US-backed coalition troops in Bagram district (Parwan province), near Bagram Air Base, on Monday, April 8, killing three US service members and an American contractor and leaving three other American soldiers wounded. US-led coalition forces cordoned off the area following the assault. The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack.

Similar Taliban attacks targeting US-led coalition forces are possible in Afghanistan over the near term.

Taliban militants launch attacks on government personnel, security forces, and civilians in Afghanistan on a near-daily basis. The assaults are in part intended to undermine the perceived capacity of Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) - and the Afghan government more broadly - to adequately provide security in the wake of the withdrawal of most US-led NATO forces from the country and to gain leverage in ongoing peace negotiations.

Individuals in Afghanistan are advised to monitor developments to the situation, remain vigilant for militant activity, and adhere to instructions and advice issued by their home governments.

The security environment in Afghanistan remains complex. Professional security advice and support should be sought prior to travel.
