Nationwide festivities associated with Thingyan, or Burmese New Year, will take place from Saturday, April 13, through Tuesday, April 16. Processions and other celebrations, including water fights, are likely across the country, particularly in larger cities such as Yangon, Bagan, and Mandalay. Crowded conditions and disruptions to transportation, along with commercial and government services, are likely during the holiday period.
Thingyan, also known as Burmese New Year, is traditionally celebrated over four to five days beginning April 13 or 14.
Individuals in Myanmar are advised to adhere to instructions issued by local authorities, respect local customs, and anticipate business, government, and transportation disruptions, crowded conditions, and increased demand for hotels and transportation services.
