Nationwide festivities associated with the Khmer New Year will take place from Sunday, April 14, through Tuesday, April 16. Limited commercial and government services are expected, along with transportation congestion and delays, during the holiday period. Crowded conditions are also likely, particularly in active areas of festivities, such as Angkor Wat and near the Old Market in Siem Reap. Disruptions are also possible on Friday, April 12, and Saturday, April 13, ahead of the official start of the new year.
Cambodian New Year follows the Buddhist lunisolar calendar and is traditionally celebrated over three days beginning April 13 or 14.
Individuals in Cambodia are advised to adhere to instructions issued by local authorities, respect local customs, and anticipate business, government, and transportation disruptions, crowded conditions, and increased demand for hotels and transportation services.
