An improvised explosive device (IED) planted by unidentified militants detonated on Mall Road in Chaman (Balochistan province) on Friday, April 12, killing at least two people and wounding ten others. The explosion reportedly targeted a Frontier Corps (FC) vehicle.

Heightened security measures are to be expected in the area over the near term. Similar militant attacks targeting security forces are nonetheless possible in Balochistan province over the coming weeks.

Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), Al-Qai'da, Islamic State (IS) affiliates, Jamaat-ul-Ahrar, Afghan Taliban, and other Islamist militant groups continue to pose a threat throughout the country despite continued army offensives to push them from their strongholds near the Afghan border.
