Former Lebanese soldiers have reportedly gathered in several regions across the country as of Tuesday, April 16, to denounce a possible alteration of current pension agreements following a proposal by Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil to reduce the salaries of civil servants. Demonstrations and roadblocks were reported in the city of Chouit, notably in the Aley district, the Chekka highway, the Naamé highway, and on the Chtaura-Dahr el-Baidar axis. Protesters have also reportedly gathered at the al-Bass roundabout located in the city of Tyre before heading to Nabatiyah, Bint Jbeil, Hasbaya, and Naamé districits of the city.
Heightened security measures and localized traffic disruptions are expected within the vicinity of all demonstration sites.
Individuals in Lebanon are advised to monitor for developments of the situation and avoid all protests.
