Libya: LNA repels assault at Tamanhint air base (near Sabha) April 18

Libya News Alert

Libyan National Army (LNA) forces repel militia assault at Tamanhint air base (near Sabha) April 18, with one LNA soldier killed; similar attacks possible over the coming weeks

TIMEFRAME expected from 4/18/2019, 12:00 AM until 4/25/2019, 11:59 PM (Africa/Tripoli). COUNTRY/REGION Tamanhint air base

Libyan National Army (LNA) forces repelled a suspected militia attack on Tamanhint air base (near Sabha) on Thursday, April 18, while most LNA-aligned troops remained engaged in a northward offensive ordered by LNA Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar to capture Tripoli from forces aligned with the UN-backed Government of National Accord (GNA). At least one LNA soldier was killed in the assault. Similar militia attacks targeting LNA positions perceived to be lightly defended are possible in southern Libya over the coming weeks as most LNA forces are expected to remain engaged in fighting around the capital.

The security environment in Libya remains complex. Professional security advice and support should be sought prior to travel.
