Four assailants were killed when Saudi security forces repelled an attempted attack on a state security building (Mabahith) in the city of Zulfi (Riyadh province) on Sunday, April 21, according to government authorities. Three security officers were also wounded during the confrontation. State-owned Al Arabiya television reported that the assailants had been carrying various weapons, including machine guns, bombs, and Molotov cocktails. No group has claimed responsibility for the foiled attack. A heightened security presence is to be anticipated in Zulfi and its environs in the coming days.
Due to the underlying terrorist risk in Saudi Arabia, those present in the country are advised to exercise caution at all times, avoid public places lacking adequate security measures or locations deemed particularly likely to be targeted in the event of an attack (e.g. official buildings, military zones, etc.), and report all suspicious objects or behavior to authorities.
