On Tuesday, April 23, Moroccan authorities announced that they had dismantled a suspected Islamic State (IS) cell in Salé, arresting six people allegedly seeking to commit "terrorist acts." Electronics, knives, and extremist literature were reportedly seized in the operation.

Similar counterterrorism operations are possible in Morocco over the coming weeks.


Morocco has a persistent low-level threat of terrorism. In 2017, 17 people died in the bombing of a popular market in Marrakesh.
