Pakistani soldiers reportedly shelled Spera district (Khost province, Afghanistan) late (local time) on Wednesday, May 1. At least four people were killed and five others were wounded in the cross-border fire, according to local officials reporting on Thursday, May 2. The shelling comes after suspected militants on Wednesday killed at least three Pakistani soldiers and wounded seven others in a cross-border attack from Afghanistan on Alwara (North Waziristan district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, Pakistan).
Similar armed exchanges are possible across the Durand Line over the near term.
Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), Al-Qai'da, Islamic State (IS) affiliates, Jamaat-ul-Ahrar, Afghan Taliban, and other Islamist militant groups continue to pose a threat across Pakistan, particularly near the Afghan border.
Individuals in the affected areas are advised to remain vigilant for militant activity and adhere to any instructions issued by the local authorities and their home governments.
