Pakistani soldiers reportedly shelled Spera district (Khost province, Afghanistan) late (local time) on Wednesday, May 1. At least four people were killed and five others were wounded in the cross-border fire, according to local officials reporting on Thursday, May 2. The shelling comes after suspected militants on Wednesday killed at least three Pakistani soldiers and wounded seven others in a cross-border attack from Afghanistan on Alwara (North Waziristan district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, Pakistan).

Similar armed exchanges are possible across the Durand Line over the near term.
