The Chalecos Mexico civil society group has called for nationwide demonstrations - known as the March of Silence - on Sunday, May 5, to denounce the policies of President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador (AMLO). In Mexico City, protests are slated to begin at 11:00 (local time) at the Angel de la Independencia. Associated demonstrations are expected in cities nationwide, including Hermosillo (Sonora state), Monterrey (Nuevo Leone state), Irapuato (Guanajuato state), Tijuana (Baja California state), and Querétaro (Querétaro state), among others.
A heightened security presence and localized traffic disruptions are to be expected near all demonstration sites.
Individuals in Mexico are advised to monitor developments to the situation, avoid all protests and demonstrations as a precaution, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities.
