A protest is scheduled to take place at the Martyrs Square in Tripoli on Friday, May 3 at 16:00 (local time) to denounce the ongoing offensive against Tripoli by the the Libyan National Army (LNA) . A heightened security presence and localized traffic disruptions are to be expected in the vicinity of the demonstration site over the coming hours.
The LNA launched an advance on Tripoli on April 4. Diplomatic missions and international companies have been drawing down non-essential staff on April 7 and LNA and GNA airstrikes have been reported in Tripoli since April 8. The majority of recent fighting has been concentrated in Tripoli's southern suburbs. On May 2, GNA forces claimed control of the Airport Road bridge while advancing to retake Tripoli International Airport (TIP) from LNA forces. As of May 3, fighting is still ongoing around the southern cities of Khallat Furjan and Salahuddin.
Individuals in Tripoli are advised to monitor developments to the situation, avoid all demonstrations as a precaution as well as areas affected by the fighting, and refrain from nonessential movement within the city.
The security environment in Libya remains complex. Professional security advice and support should be sought prior to travel.
