An oil tanker explosion that occurred during the early morning hours (local time) on Monday, May 6 near the Diori Hamani International Airport (NIM) in Niamey has left at least 55 people dead. Nigerien authorities reported that the victims were siphoning fuel when the explosion occurred. At least 30 people were also injured by the explosion. Traffic disruptions are expected in the area over the coming hours. Travel disruptions are possible due to the wreckage caused by the explosion.
