The National Association of Gasoline Workers (Anadegas) has called for a nationwide strike by fuel retailers and associated demonstrations on Monday, May 13. The union is protesting perceived government inaction in addressing smuggling of fuel. Significant fuel shortages are possible across the country during the strike and associated protests and related disruptions may occur. Taxi availability may also be affected if there are fuel shortages.


Individuals in the Dominican Republic are advised to monitor the situation, ensure adequate supplies of fuel and avoid nonessential movements, and avoid all related public gatherings as a precaution.
