Lebanese authorities confirmed on Thursday, May 16, that a Lebanese citizen, abducted in  Abidjan on May 13, has been released. Details regarding the circumstances of the release as well as the kidnappers' identities remain unclear.


The Lebanese community in Côte d'Ivoire is the largest Lebanese diaspora community in West Africa. In recent years, such kidnappings - notably for ransom - targeting Lebanese nationals in Côte d'Ivoire have increased.


Individuals in Côte d'Ivoire are advised to remain vigilant for criminal activity.
