Local authorities imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew in Béoumi (Vallée du Bandama district) on Thursday, May 16, following intercommunal clashes which took place overnight on May 15-16. The curfew will be in place from 18:00 to 06:00 (local time) until further notice. Heightened security measures, nightly movement restrictions, and ongoing tensions are to be expected in the area in the coming weeks.
Violent clashes erupted on May 15-16 between the Baoule and Malinke ethnic communities, leaving nine people killed and 84 others wounded. Fighting broke out between two groups of moto-taxi drivers belonging to each community, which resulted in property destructions as the groups set fire to several shops.
Individuals in Béoumi are advised to monitor the situation, avoid demonstrations due to the risk of violence, anticipate a heightened security presence and localized disruptions in the affected area, and adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities.
