At least 18 people were killed in the attack on Yargamji village. A self-defense militia from another village reportedly repelled the bandits by chasing them into a forest. Residents fear that additional people were also killed in subsequent clashes. Unconfirmed reports allege that the gunmen attacked the villages for monetary gain and have no known ideological agenda.
