A group of aviation unions called off on the evening (local time) of Wednesday, May 22, the indefinite strike launched in the morning, following successful negotiations with the government. Normal operations at airports across the country have resumed as of Thursday, May 23; however, lingering disruptions are possible.
The unions announced their intention to strike on May 21 after a seven-day ultimatum issued by the groups expired. Union leaders demanded that the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and the government change the current management structure of the NCAA, which they argue does not allow for career progression.
Travelers flying to, from, or through Nigeria are advised to monitor developments to the situation, confirm flight reservations prior to leaving for the airport, expect increased waiting times at the airport, and to contact their airline for additional information.
