Iraq: VBIED kills two in western Anbar province May 23

Iraq News Alert

Vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (VBIED) explosion kills two people in Karabila (Anbar province) May 23

TIMEFRAME expected from 5/23/2019, 12:00 AM until 5/24/2019, 11:59 PM (Asia/Baghdad). COUNTRY/REGION Anbar

A suspected vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (VBIED) explosion killed two people in Karabilah (Anbar province) on Thursday, May 23. According to local sources, at least two other people were wounded in the blast.

Similar incidents are possible in areas of Iraq formerly controlled by the IS group over the near term.

While former Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi claimed victory over the Islamic State (IS) group in December 2017, the group retains a degree of freedom of movement in parts of the country, particularly in western and northern Iraq.

Individuals in the affected area are advised to report suspicious objects and behavior to the police, remain vigilant for militant activity, and adhere to any instructions issued by the local authorities and their home governments.

The security environment in Iraq remains complex. Professional security advice and support should be sought prior to all travel.
