Demonstrations planned in Lima and other urban centres May 24; heightened security presence and transportation disruptions likely

TIMEFRAME expected from 5/24/2019, 12:00 AM until 5/25/2019, 11:59 PM (America/Lima). COUNTRY/REGION Peru, Lima

The civil society organisation Con Mis Hijos No Te Matas, has called for demonstrations to be held nationwide on Friday, May 24, to denounce the inclusion of gender studies in the national education curriculum. In Lima, protesters are expected to gather at 08:00 (local time) at Acho, Dos de Mayo, and Manco Capac squares, and will then march towards the Congress building.

A heightened security presence and localized disruptions are likely near the demonstrations sites. Clashes between protesters and security forces cannot be ruled out.

Individuals in Lima and other urban centres are advised to monitor the situation, avoid all public demonstrations as a precaution, and anticipate a heightened security presence and localized business and transportation disruptions near any demonstrations.
