A demonstration has been reported in La Paz on Friday, May 24, amid the one-year anniversary of the death of university student Jonathan Quispe Vila. According to local sources, students from the University of El Alto are marching down Montes Avenue to commemorate the student's death.

A heightened security presence and transportation disruptions are expected over the coming hours. Further demonstrations are possible across Bolivia in the coming weeks.

Jonathan Quispe Vila was killed on May 24, 2018, during a demonstration calling for an increased budget for the University of El Alto.
