Event

Bali's Mount Agung erupted lava and ash on Friday night (local time), May 24, causing overnight flight delays and cancelations to and from Australia. Flights to and from Bali mostly returned to normal on Saturday, May 25, although residual disruptions were reported and remain possible over the coming hours.

Additional flight delays and cancelations are to be expected in the event of further volcanic activity.

Context

Agung is an active volcano on eastern Bali and eruptions have been ongoing since 2017. A ban on hiking at the volcano has been in effect since 2017.

Individuals in or traveling to Bali are advised to monitor the situation and anticipate flight diversions and disruptions in the event of a major eruption.
