The Thai government has declared that Monday, June 3, will be a public holiday to celebrate Queen Suthida’s birthday. Government offices and main bank branches across the country will be closed and other business disruptions are also possible. Celebratory events are expected to be held nationwide, particularly in Bangkok. A ritual is scheduled to be held at Bangkok’s Sanam Luang followed by an evening candlelight rally starting at 19:00 (local time). The government has also asked public buildings and private businesses to be decorated with purple and yellow colors. A heightened security presence is also possible around government organized commemorative events.
Individuals in Thailand are advised to respect local customs and laws, anticipate government and business disruptions during the holiday, and adhere to instructions issued by local authorities.
