A cruise ship ran into a tourist river boat and a dock at the San Basilio Cruise Terminal in Venice on the morning (local time) of Sunday, June 2, injuring at least five people. The accident occurred at approximately 08:30 on the Giudecca Canal. According to initial reports, the cruise ship was unable to stop after the cable linking the tug boats to the ship snapped. Italian rescue personnel have deployed to the scene and officials said that the situation is under control. Localized transportation disruptions are expected in the area over the coming hours as response operations continue.
