A lone gunman who opened fire on security personnel in Tripoli on Monday, June 3, died after reportedly detonating an explosive device. According to army officials, the suspect barricaded himself into an apartment after being tracked down by military intelligence soldiers. He detonated a suicide belt after the soldiers stormed the building. Officials confirmed that two police officers and a soldier were killed, and several others wounded in the shootings. No group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack. An investigation into the incident is ongoing and officials have identified the gunman.

The attack started on Monday night (local time) outside of a branch of the Lebanese Central Bank, when the gunman opened fire in the area. He shot at police officers and a military vehicle before fleeing into the apartment building, A heightened security presence is expected in Tripoli over the coming hours and days.
