Event

Suspected militants attacked a security checkpoint in Al-Arish (North Sinai province) on Wednesday, June 5, killing eight policemen. Five militants were also killed in the attack.

Similar attacks and related security operations are to be expected in North Sinai province over the coming weeks.

Context

The attack comes as security forces continue to carry out counterterrorism raids in the area under the auspices of "Comprehensive Operation - Sinai 2018", that aims to neutralize militant and terrorist groups operating in the Sinai, Nile Delta, and the Western Desert.
